August School Holiday Fun @ Queensbay Mall Penang

In conjunction with the August school holiday, MRC Relau had organized some fun activities at Queensbay Mall (with the joint sponsorship of Q-Kids club) from 24-26 August 2009. The activities include Puppet Craft Workshop, Merdeka Coloring Contest and Clown Craft Workshop.

The kids had a great time-surrounded by great activities... We were delighted!

2009年MRC国际嘉年华‧光明指定宣传报章

（檳城）SMM精忆图教育集团，將於9月12日及13日在云顶高原举办“2009年MRC国际嘉年华”盛会，这场活动预料吸引超过3000名亲子参与，《光明日报》为大会唯一中文宣传报章。

SMM精忆图教育集团董事经理吴慧芹连同此集团执行主席林得丁、董事陈甡贤及北马各区院长蒞临《光明日报》交流，並为这项精诚合作签署意向书，由吴慧芹与《光明日报》高级业务促进经理郑永明代表签署，並由《星洲日报》檳吉坡霹区高级经理潘友平、《光明日报》高级广告经理谢进鏵及副广告经理洪葆芩见证。

About MRC Kids Programme:-

Aims:

• To elevate the intelligence quotient(IQ), emotional quotient(EQ), and creativity quotient(CQ)
• To lay a strong foundation for the languages and be able to read up to 1,000 Chinese/English/Bahasa Malaysia words
• To stimulate and enhance the potential of the right brain, to enhance concentration, observation,imagination and memory skill
• To cultivate reading interest

What: Parent read aloud to their children for 10 minutes daily.
When: Everyday, usually at bedtime.
Where: In a comfortable quiet place.

Why:
- To develop a love for reading.
- To improve the children's language abilities.
- To increase family harmony.

How:
- Parents start reading daily to each child from the age of 18 months - Let the child comment, question or discuss the story or related topics.
- Important note: this is not teaching the child to read.

Results: Children who are read aloud everyday behave better and more successful in school

素质教育 VS 填鸭式与应试教育

一般的补习中心都以填鸭式和应试教育方法教学,就是把知识一味灌输给学生。与之相对的是启发式教育。相对于学生的年龄特点和成长方式当然是启发的好。在教育界有一句话：“我听，我忘记；我看，有印象；我做，我记住。”填鸭式教育前两项都占全了，就是没有“做”这一环节。

在传统的“填鸭式”教学中，教师注重的是知识的传授，一节课往往就是教师滔滔不绝地讲，学生安安静静地听，教学模式基本固定不变，偶有提问，也是直问直答式，缺少启发性。面对枯燥的文字、抽象的事理、乏味的讲解、沉闷的气氛，学生怎会有兴趣，怎能不反感？

应试教育”着眼于分数和选拔，以考取高分获得升学资格为目地，属急功近利的短视行为, 而且紧紧围绕考试和升学需要，考什么就教什么，所实施的是片面内容的知识教学。只教考试内容，忽视了非应试能力的培养，如语文、外语学科忽视听说能力的训练，学生无法充分发挥语言的交际功能；在数理化学科中忽视对理论知识的运用及动手操作，以致学生在实际问题面前束手无策。它也采取急功近利的做法，大搞题海战术，猜题押题、加班加点、死记硬背、“填鸭式”等，不仅加重了学生的课业负担，也使学生的能力得不到全面的培养。“应试教育”要求学校的一切工作都围绕着备考这个中心而展开，要求学生积累与考试有关的知识、形式、应试技能，考取高分，要求老师将分数作为教学的唯一追求，以分数作为衡量学生和老师水平的唯一尺度在“应试教育”下，多数学生受到忽视，产生厌学情绪，片面发展，个性受到压抑，缺乏继续发展的能力.

素质教育则受教育者个体发展和社会发展的需要，旨在提高孩子素质，追求教育的长远利益与目标。 素质教育则要求开发学生的潜能与优势，重视启发诱导，因材施教，使学生学会学习，生动活泼地发展。 立足于学生素质的全面提高，以多种形式全面衡量学生素质和教师的水平。

MRC™ Northern Region State Level Talent Competition - this Saturday!

7 JSP students have been selected to represent MRC Relau, Bayan Baru branch at the prestigious MRC™ Northern Region State Level Talent Competition, which will be held later this month.

The event provides an initiative to help children showcase talent during the competition and to develop the talent and potential of children between 3 to 12 years old. This yearly event also provides an avenue for all MRC students to express themselves creatively and confidently on stage, be it singing, dancing or story-telling. Besides, they will also apply the Super Memory Map (SMM) skill that they learnt during the competition.

You are welcome to support us at Sekolah Menengah Teknik Seberang Prai, Juru on 20 June 2009. The competition will be started at 10:30am.

All the best and good luck to Yi Wen, Gibson, Yong Ying, Jian He, Sze Huey, Hao Chuan and Johnson in the competition..!
